Sample: Handcrafts

Architecture as a craft is meant to flow seamlessly between the mind, the hand, and the machine.

In this day and age it can be easy to forgot to use your hands in the design process. This would be a mistake! Hands are free flowing and can move in three dimensions; they are not bound to algorithms within the confines of a flat screen. Paper sketches and physical models are essential equipment in an architect’s toolkit.

The two images on the left are from a 1/8″ scale physical model for a sculpture museum. I photographed the model outside to capture the effect of daylight in the gallery spaces and the result can almost be confused for a full size version of the real thing.
